Prosperity Market in collaboration with Council District 10 is hosting a pop-up market at the newly minted Obama Sports Complex on Saturday, August 27, which will serve as the grand finale to its month-long Black Business Scavenger Hunt. After visiting Black-owned businesses across LA over the last month, Scavenger Hunt participants can discover even more hidden gems and celebrate their efforts alongside their fellow hunters and find out who racked up the most points. Over 30 vendors will be featured–including Bridgetown Roti, All Chill Ice Cream, California Coffee Company, and Farmer Ken–as well as a live DJ, and remarks from Los Angeles City Council District 10 staff. The event is free and open to the public.
“We’ve been able to double the number of participating businesses from last year and it’s been exciting to see so many people supporting the businesses and enjoying the scavenger hunt,” say Prosperity Market co-founders Kara Still and Carmen Dianne.
In honor of Black Business Month (August), Prosperity Market founders Kara Still and Carmen Dianne created a series of clues that led participants to a series of over 50 Black-owned businesses throughout Los Angeles. Participants who have visited the most locations over the past month will win prizes including tickets to Grace Jones at The Hollywood Bowl, items from participating businesses, and more.
“Inequitable access to healthy food options have driven health disparities for generations. Our office is dedicated to addressing the diverse needs of our constituents and that includes increasing food security and assisting with economic development. This partnership with Prosperity Market allows us to do both,” said 10th District Caretaker, Heather Hutt.
